Main Square

In the middle of the square there is a fountain that is specifically made out with a single stone block. A few meters away, there is also Saint Peter’s Cathedral, which evokes the colonial style since the time it was first built.

Sunday Fair

Every Sunday, there is a Sunday Fair which sells typical things of the locality, from food to crafts. We also have the monument dedicated to José María Arguedas, who was born in Andahuaylas and is the especially recognized for his intimate portrayals of indigenous Andean culture.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cocharcas

This building houses Our Lady of Cocharcas. It is one of the most beautiful religious structures of the Andes. It is highly recommended to travel on September, since the feast of Our Lady of Cocharcas is celebrated on this month.

Picante de Cuy (Spicy Guinea Pig stew)

The whole guinea pig dish - also known as jaca cuy – evokes the Andean roots and it comes with chicha de jora (a type of corn beer chicha in a glass).

Chicharron (fried pork rinds)

A delicious dish generally made of fried pork rinds; served with potato, mote (a type of corn), and salad. This dish can be tasted at any time and most frequently in traditional and patronal feasts.

Humitas (a maize (corn) dough, slowly steamed or boiled in a pot of water)

These humitas are sweet or salty, you cannot miss the chance of tasting this delicacy made out of maize (corn).

Lake Pacucha

It is considered one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Peru. It is located in the District of Pacucha, which is 16 kilometers away from the province of Andahuaylas.

Pampachiri: Pampa de Pabellones

Aproximately at 130 km of Andahuaylas. Its impressing natural formation covers a distance of 60 ha; it is also a good place to meditate. Thus, many sports adventures may be practiced here. Try to do trekking to Lagunilla Roqrosqa and appreciate its rare beauty expressed in the combination of blue and green color of their waters.

Paragliding (Hang gliding) over the Ruins of Sondor

Andahuaylas has good air currents as well as landscapes. This is why this can be a good chance for those willing to assume the challenge to see Andahuaylas from another perspective and have an unforgettable experience.
